Compressor Model CA-2730-2

In April of 2010, J-W Manufacturing Company of Longview, TX will be completing two natural gas compressor packages with a combined power rating of 4,740 horsepower.  This equipment is being purchased by a customer to be placed in the Marcellus shale play in Pennsylvania.

Each compressor package has an Ariel JGC-4 compressor with a cylinder configuration of (2) 12.5" & (2) 7.25" x 6.5" driven by a Caterpillar G3608 TA low emission engine rated 2,370 horsepower @ 1000 RPM adjoined to a three-fan heat exchanger built by Chart Cooler Services of Tulsa, OK.  The engine has eight 11.8" bore cylinders and is equipped with AdemTM III control system.  The skid was fabricated at the J-W Manufacturing Company facility in Longview, TX and the ASME Section VIII Code pressure vessels were constructed at the J-W Manufacturing Company facility in Kilgore, TX.  Units are controlled by a FW Murphy panel that utilizes a Centurion controller to monitor system functionality.  Some of the instrumentation used on the package includes products from Norriseal, Kenco, FW Murphy, Mercer, Fisher and Kim Hotstart.

"The precedence was set early on by Don Bizzell that quality was a top priority.  The manufacturing team took this challenge to heart and everyone strived to put out the best quality product J-W has to offer" stated Paul Stephenson, President of J-W Manufacturing Company.

These units were designed with input from a team of individuals with many years of experience in the compression industry.  An on-hand staff with prior knowledge and expertise of packaging Caterpillar G3600 series engines played a key role in making this project a huge success.  Careful consideration has to be given when packaging equipment of this size and engineering definitely kept the customer's focus in terms of performance, serviceability and safety.

Each unit was test-run in Longview, TX to ensure functionality and just extra insurance that we are sending out a quality product that has been proven.   Standing platforms on each side of the unit provides maintenance access of the engine with much more ease and assured satisfaction to a service technician.  With the overall unit length nearing 80' and a weight of approx. 240,000 lbs., the package was designed to be separable where the cooler and engine will be removed to meet shipping requirements.
